Conceived from a text written shortly after arriving in the city of Torino, la la continues my interest in spatial practices as well as the role of the camera, specifically the extent of its ability in representing or constructing subjectivity. The video and text takes Mole Antonelliana as the main protagonist, and sets up a loose first person narrative about surveillance. Ways of seeing and ideas of perception extend to the way the footage has been shot and edited. Adopting crude stop motion the work speaks about the performative aspect of images, as well as inquiring into how reality is represented and meaning can be constructed or altered. la la sets up La Mole not only as a coercive structure but enters into a dialogue with the history of the moving image of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in which it houses.

Incorporating images of pre-cinematographic optical apparatuses into the narrative from the museum itself (such as zoetropes), reverberates the (digital) process used: that of still images on top of video footage. Such an effect becomes less seamless as the video continues and brings into question notions of authenticity. Rather then a simple story, by imbedding the process into the narrative the video speaks towards how reality can be captured by the camera and then altered to take on a different meaning: from a building to that of a ubiquitous entity that is La Mole.
